Robert (Bob) Iain Stewart Anderson (1939 - 2019)

We are deeply saddened to report that Bob Anderson died peacefully on 5th October 2019. A gathering to remember Bob was held on Sunday October 20th at Queens Manor 565 Queensferry Road EH4 8DU.

BOB ANDERSON served as President, and Secretary of SSAA actively maintaining the enthusiasm and energy within the Society for more than ten years. With his wife Ann, Bob was very active in arranging SSAA exhibitions around Scotland, and together they built strong reciprocal relations with similar architect-artist groups in Venice, Verona, Paris, Warsaw and Stuttgart.

Bob studied architecture at Liverpool and worked in Rhodesia and Zambia and with his wife Ann, became heavily involved in theatre: designing, building and painting many stage sets. Returning to the UK they settled in Edinburgh for the culture. Bob worked 8 years with Roland Wedgwood, 4 as a partner in the Well Court Hall. He was subsequently a sole practitioner followed by a period in practice with Alan Jeffrey.

In architectural private practice, there seemed little time for painting apart from holidays, but his continuing deep interest and talent in art led Bob to join and exhibit with the Scottish Society of Architect Artists. Initially he concentrated on pencil, watercolour and pastel works, and received the SSAA Award and x3 Pittenweem Arts Festival Open Painting Day Awards.  In 2012 Bob personally hosted the Royal visit of our Patron, HRH Duke of Gloucester at the 25th Anniversary celebrations of SSAA in the House for an Art Lover in Glasgow.
